Aviation System Standards provides services to ensure flight safety. As continued advancements in avionics combined with GPS positioning and other, new high-tech possibilities for aerospace navigation, Aviation System Standards plays an ever increasing role in the improvements to our National Aerospace System. Below are summaries of the services we provide, along with more information about our individual offices.

The National Aeronautical Navigational Services Group (AeroNav Services) develops and publishes instrument flight procedures and aeronautical charts. This office is responsible for implementation of programs related to the design, development, modification, or evaluation for NextGen. [more...]

The Flight Inspection Operations Group operates a fleet of jet and turbo-prop aircraft in order to conduct airborne evaluation of electronic signals from ground-based navigation aids that are used for aircraft departure, enroute, and arrival flight procedures. [more...]

The Federal Aviation Administration is responsible for all Department of Defense (DoD) flight inspection requirements. Through a Memorandum of Agreement, the U.S. Air Force maintains a staff of Active and Reserve aircrews to perform flight inspection missions worldwide, including missions in support of combat and contingency operations. A DoD flight inspection program liaison office oversees the requirements of all the military services. [more...]

The Business and Planning Group advises and provides support to Aviation Systems Standards management and personnel on administrative and budget activities designed to assure the effectiveness and efficiency of Aviation Systems Standards programs. The Acquisition Support Team acquires all Federal Aviation Administration aircraft, aircraft systems/equipment and flight simulators to meet requirements of four flight program missions. [more...]

The Aviation Systems Standards National Liaison Office is established at the Air Traffic Control System Command Center in Herndon, VA. The office directly supports Air Traffic Services operations by providing a national focal point for Aviation System Standards' mission activities (flight inspection and instrument procedures).
